This Indonesian Man Planted Over 200,000 Trees
This Indonesian man, Mr. Makhrus, has planted over 200,000 during his lifetime. Since 1981, he has been planting trees everyday to restore his home region of Rejoso in West Java, Indonesia. His efforts have helped restore the Rejoso watershed and neighbouring rivers.
Mr. Makhrus reminds us of the many benefits of tree planting. For instance, trees reduce the amount of storm water runoff, which reduces erosion and pollution in our waterways.
His action, passion and dedication over the years, has inspired hundreds of others to follow in his footsteps. He told us, “We should do it for our love of the environment, because that happiness is unique.”
